iOS

iOS (formerly iPhone OS) is a mobile operating system developed by Apple Inc. exclusively for its hardware.  It is the operating system that powers many of the company’s mobile devices, including the iPhone; the term also includes the system software for iPads.

The Rise

The rise of iOS has been quite remarkable over the years. The iOS has continually evolved developing new features, and enhanced security, contributing to its rise in popularity among users globally.

The Evolution

iOS, iPhone, being launched in 2007, has always been at a hype about the new features and revolution it brings, in every new version. The iPhone version launched in 2007 was known as iOS 1, which included the basic functions like touch interface and Safari browser. iOS 4, the next version, developed app folders, FaceTime, and many such new features. iOS 7, came with a new feature of Control Center and AirDrop. The next version iOS 9 came with Siri as a new feature, and introduced Apple Music. iOS 11 included file app for better file management, and a redesigned control and center. Similarly, iOS 14 and 15 came with features like App Library for better app organization, Focus Mode, and more such features.

Android

Android made by Google is an open-source OS. It was developed in 2003, and was purchased by Google in 2005. Android was launched with various types of names, like Android 1.0, Android 1.1, Android Cupcake, Android Donut, etc.

The Rise of Android

The first Android version launched was Android 1.0, which now has reached Android 14. It has become the most popular mobile OS globally, defeating competitors like Blackberry, Windows Phone, and many more. In 2005, Google bought Android, and acquired the original company. It went through a long evolution, and today it is the leading mobile OS system worldwide with over 70% market share.

The Evolution

Android started in 2008 as Android 1.0, and since then it has been releasing new versions, with new features, improvements, and optimization. Android also adapted the advanced technology and launched foldable devices, and 5g connectivity showcasing its constant evolution to meet the changing taste of the users and technology.

Android vs iOS

  1. Android offers a wide range of devices from various manufacturers giving diverse options to users with designs, features, and price ranges, but iOS limits its features only to Apple products.
  2. Android provides personalized home screens to users, but iOS offers limited customized options.
  3. Android integrates with Google services like Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive, but iOS integrates with other Apple devices like iCloud, FaceTime, etc.
  4. Android provides devices of various price ranges, according to different budget list, but iOS only provides devices in a premium price range with few budget-friendly options.
  5. Android uses Google Assistant, according to its understanding and integration with Google Services, but iOS comes with Siri, which is integrated only into Apple devices.
